Waverley Council has selected the Uno Discovery layer to introduce brand new, integrated federated search services for its library patrons.
Developed by an Australian Library Management Specialist, Uno Discovery Cloud will provide a single point of access to the entire catalogue offered by Waverly and surrounding council libraries.
“I’m very excited about how Uno will enhance the ‘user experience’ for our patrons,” said Roniet Meyerthal, Waverley Council’s Manager, Technology & Special Projects, Library & Customer Services.
“Up until now it has been very hard to find a solution that will truly integrate access to our various subscriptions, collections and partner libraries in a single search. I believe Uno will unveil a great deal of materials to library users that were otherwise not easily searchable,” she said.
“Uno Discovery will also do this via an interface that is already familiar to patrons and provide seamless access to Member Services – so users will find it really easy to use can immediately personalise or save their Discovery searches.”
The Uno Discovery layer is fully-integrated with the LIBERO LMS that has supported Waverley Council Library since 2003, delivering web-based library services that include integrated access to social media platforms, and multimedia content – including eBooks for library users.
The decision to select Uno was influenced by the partnership with Insight Informatics – the Brisbane based company behind the LIBERO and Uno product ranges.
“Working with LIBERO and Insight is always a very positive experience. The product quality speaks for itself and Insight’s focus on the needs of individual customers is second-to-none,” she said.
Roniet attributes LIBERO to the ability to successfully improve staff workflows and provide a patron friendly interface to the many services and resources available through Waverley Library.
“Via LIBERO, Waverley Council continues to have access to new features that evolve our library service and appeal to the changing needs of the local community. Uno is another example of this,” she said.
The LIBERO customer base includes some of Sydney’s most popular public library services, including Canterbury, Bankstown, Campbelltown City Library, Woollahra Municipal Council and City of Canada Bay, in addition to Waverley Council.
Neighbouring library, Canterbury City Council implemented Insight’s Uno Discovery layer in April to achieve massive gains in circulation across its four branches.
“We realised an immediate increase in hits on our electronic database search statistics by a few hundred per cent,” said Canterbury City Council’s Library Coordinator of Support Services Jeremy Macpherson on the installation of Uno Discovery Cloud.
“As more libraries implement a federated search or discovery platform, it is important that we too utilise the potential of technology to optimise figures related to our key performance indicators.”
