A number of improvements have been made to the Discovery search functions, including:

To provide libraries with greater control over which collections and material types are displayed in Discovery, Libero has introduced an on-demand process that libraries can use to exclude selected collections or GMDs.

New Author search functionality

Enhancement to banner and thumbnail image support in Events

Libero libraries can now upload both a banner image and an optional thumbnail image when creating or editing events in the Discovery Events and Resource Bookings module.

If no thumbnail image is provided, the banner image will automatically be used in its place.

Improved image handling for Events and Resource Bookings

Separate upload options for banners and thumbnail views have been implemented for Events and Resource booking features. Each upload field lists specific guidance on image file size, format, and aspect ratio.

Further Optimisation to Discovery Search

At Libero, we aim to provide the very best LMS Discovery platform for customers, their members and the modern library. Following additional review and customer engagement, we have further optimised Discovery and added additional metadata links to improve resource discovery.

Improvements to Discovery Home Page Slide Navigation

Our libraries have asked for improved side navigation links on the Discovery Main page. We’ve delivered by adding new prebuilt searches and services, including:

  • Custom Search queries enabled by extending support query parameters functions, eg adding search?q=cat
  • Direct link to the Purchase Suggestion form (`requestEditItem?form=purchaseRequest`), which will link logged-in users to the form with a single click
New “RSN List” Option for Carousel Creation

Our Libero customers asked for an alternative option for creating Discovery Carousels. Now, library staff can create Discovery Carousels with a new “RSN list” option in addition to “Saved search”.

  • Libero now provides a static carousel display using “RSN (unique identifier) based lists” to enable libraries to curate carousel content to display a specific list of titles.
  • This complements our existing dynamic carousel structure. When “Search” is selected, library staff can design and save a dynamic search statement to populate a carousel. Dynamic searches will update as new resources are added to collections.
Syndetics Unbound Now Integrated Into Libero Discovery, Further Improving Display

Syndetics Unbound is now integrated into Libero Discovery, increasing the number of titles that can be displayed with colour images on both the WebOPAC and the Discovery front end.

When Syndetics data is available for a title, enriched information now displays automatically at the bottom of the Work page.

We have also increased the discovery of title images from other providers by:

  • Prioritising images from 856$u fields with indicators set to 42 and image file extensions.
  • Improved local image discovery by adding keyword matching based on text in the 856$y field
  • Prioritising images from book formats over other formats, and digital items when displaying grouped titles

Members can access and connect digitally with your library 24 hours a day, every day of the year.

Event Management for libraries

Events play a key role for modern libraries as a central location for communities to come together.

The configuration interface gives libraries easy–to–understand room and resource availability information, and simple bookings management processes with the capability to archive resources while unavailable or in repair.

Community and library members can reserve and manage bookings through a calendar-style booking system, accessed from either the web or the Libero Library App.
