carousel, Future-proofing Proven Borrowing Boosters

It’s sometimes hard keeping up with the shift as the ‘real world’ moves online. For example, how do take your beautiful library displays online?

At Moreland City Council Library, they have a quarterly tradition for choosing Top 10 for adult and a Top 5 each for Young Adult and Juniors titles. They select titles that are award-winners, or coincide with movie or tv releases, or are the latest from a popular author. These books are so popular that they have borrowing restrictions and a shorter loan period with no reserves or renewals.

But how can they take this very successful method of boosting borrowing and future-proof it?

Luckily for Moreland, they have the clever Zoe Velonis, who has been excited about the possibility of carousels since it was enabled in their LIBERO Library Management System.

“Ever since we got the carousel enabled, we’ve been wanting to customise it, so it shows more than just new books. Once I found out this is not only possible, but we can have multiple carousels, I watched the LIBERO TV episode to find out how,” says Zoe.

With a little help from LIBERO Customer Service Zoe was able to get their customised carousels up and running.

“Once Selena set up the User-defined lists for me, creating the carousels wasn’t too hard. I’ve been using the User-defined list to experiment and create our current Winter Top 10 & Top 5 carousel.”

And in Zoe’s mind, the possibilities are endless.

“A carousel of Booker Prize longlisted titles; Aurealis-award winners; books related to the election or to the Grand Final; reader-nominated favourites after running a competition; the works of a recently-deceased author; an ‘if you liked this, you might also like’ type of list – so many things to do!”

With such enthusiastic Librarians, the future looks safe at Moreland.
